Fuerteventura is the second largest island in Canarias after Tenerife and is the most popular holiday destinations. The island of Fuerteventura being the closest point at only 930 km due west from the coast of Morocco and just 90 km from the Africa. The Island is measuring 110 km from north to south and 20 km at its widest point. Fuerteventura is protected biosphere reserve by UNESCO.
Fuerteventura is surfers paradise. It is one of the best place in Europe for heavy, uncrowded waves. There are many different surfing spots that works all year round. The main surf spots are located in the North of the Island, like Cotillo, El Hierro (German Right), El Burro, Punta Gorda, Caleta, Bubble, Majanicho and etc. Beginners and Intermediate level surfers will love Punta Blanca and Caleta Inside surfing spots. In Corralejo city you will have famous Rocky Point (Punta Elena), which is perfect for all level of surfers. Also In Corralejo city you will find surfing spot El Muelle- more for advanced surfers. More over you can take the boat from Corralejo harbour and go to surf the longest wave in Europe in Lobos Island, which is in front of Corralejo.

Fuerteventura is called European Hawaii. Here you have different surfing spots for all levels of surfers. In Fuerteventura you will find beach breaks, reef breaks, spots with long slow waves or heavy, powerful beachbreaks. Here you can surf all year round. In winter time swell is bigger and wind is lighter, in summer time, the swell drops, the wind becomes more strong. But then, some surf spots in the east coast start to work. The water temperature is always warm, during summer time is possible to surf even without wetsuit, because water temperature is around 25. During winter it drops below 20 degrees.
Despite surfing, it is very popular in Fuerteventura to do kitesurfing, kiteboarding and windsurfing. In the south the wind is stronger, but in the north we have constant wind. Kitesurfers and windsurfers love the north shore and flag beach close to Corralejo. Fuerteventura is perfect place for water sport lovers and surfing holidays.
What to do in Fuerteventura?
Despite surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, there are plenty of things to do in Fuerteventura.
In the Fuerteventura you can find the best and biggest dunes in the Canary Islands. They are located close to Corralejo city in the north of the Island. It is very popular to go there walking tour.
There are many tours and activities in Fuerteventura. Horse lovers can go for horse-riding tour in the island or on the beach. It is suitable for beginners or advanced riders. Cycling is one of the most popular activities after water sports. Empty roads, sunshine, beautiful landscape attracts many riders. Bikes can be hired in the major centers. Fishing is another popular activity in Fuerteventura. You can catch here big marlin, swordfish, tuna, bonito, wahoo, barracuda and sea bass.
As well as, people loves to come here for diving. Some places here are deeper than 1 km, water temperature is between 17-27 degrees, and visibility is more than 50 meters. The underwater landscape of volcanic mass of Fuerteventura has amazing shapes, caves, grottoes and sandy stretches. During diving you can see many exotic fishes, like Barracuda, Parrot fish, squid, octopus and many others. Sometimes is possible to meet rays, dolphins, pilot whales and hammerhead sharks.
